Convoworks WP 0.24 – A Faster, Cleaner Editor on the Road to Version 1
Convoworks WP 0.24.00 brings a major upgrade to your workflow-editing experience. This release focuses on making the editor faster, easier to navigate, and more helpful—so you can build and manage automations without friction. Here’s what’s new.
In our previous article—“Convoworks, 2025 – Status and Next Steps”—we outlined the ongoing transition toward a cleaner, more modular foundation. Version 0.24.00 reflects that work directly: streamlined navigation, clearer documentation, and stronger separation of configuration and services.
What’s New
Component Search & Improved Navigation
Finding components in large workflows is now effortless. Just start typing anywhere in the editor to instantly filter components by name or any parameter value.
We also improved scrolling and dragging, making it smoother to place elements deep inside larger workflow blocks.
Enhanced Component Help
Help documentation for 30+ components across the Core and WordPress packages has been fully refreshed. Each component’s help panel now includes:
- When to use it – real scenarios and typical use cases
- Properties – clear descriptions of each setting
- Runtime behavior – what the component does during execution
- Examples – practical expressions and patterns
- Tips – best practices and common pitfalls
The new help files are displayed inline in the editor sidebar for faster reference.
Installation Variables: Secure API Key Storage
The new Installation Variables screen provides a secure way to store API keys and sensitive configuration. Save them once, and reference them across services—no more embedding secrets in workflow definitions.
Service Management Improvements
You can now manage services more easily right from the list view:
- Copy a service with one click
- Download a service as JSON for backups or transfer
This makes creating templates, moving services, or sharing configurations straightforward.
Editor Design Refinements
We’ve made numerous UI polish updates to improve readability and consistency:
- Cleaner component cards and labels
- Improved spacing and visual hierarchy
- More consistent styling across the editor
- Better responsiveness on different screen sizes
The editor is now easier to scan and more enjoyable to work with.
Platform Support
The long-deprecated Facebook Messenger and Dialogflow platforms have now been fully removed from the plugin. These integrations have not been actively used for years, and cleaning them out contributes to a simpler and more maintainable core.
Alexa integrations remain fully supported and continue to work as before. No changes are required. Our own Convoworks-based Alexa skill is still running daily in the kitchen, streaming music without issues. 🙂
Under the Hood
We’ve done significant internal cleanup and refactoring. While mostly invisible to users, these changes improve overall performance, stability, and maintainability.
The sliding help panel has been part of Convoworks for a long time, but until now its content was stored in HTML. Help files are now maintained in Markdown, which doesn’t change how they appear in the editor but makes the files easier to write, reuse, and keep in sync across components.
What’s Next
We’re continuing to expand documentation, add new workflow components, and improve performance. Future releases will include additional platform integrations and further editor enhancements.
